Kohima, Sep. 21 (EMN): Wicket keeper batsman KB Pawan, guest player from Karnataka scored an unbeaten ton (113* runs 131 ball 4x8, 2x6) to help Nagaland register their first win by 7 wickets in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy held at Gujarat on Friday.
While youngster Sedezalie Rupereo scored his first half century (50 runs in 90 balls) and off-spinner Tahmeed Rahman took a wicket (1-25) for Nagaland.
In the match, Meghalaya team elected to bat first and scored a challenging target of 246 runs in 50 overs.
Opener RR Biswa scored 71 runs in 99 balls, while Gurinder Singh and Y Nagar scored 56 and 58* runs to pass the 200 mark score. Meghalaya reached 100 runs in 23.1 overs and reached 201 runs in 45.3 overs to set up a target of 247 to win in 50 overs.
Nitesh Lochab, Inakato Zhimomi, Hokaito Zhimomi, and T Rahman took a wicket each for Nagaland.
In reply, Nagaland managed to reach the target in 47.3 overs with 15 balls to spare after KB Pawan scored 113 runs (not out) to help Nagaland win the match.
KP Pawan and Sedezhalie scored a partnership total of 132 runs before Sede was out caught by Punit Bisht off the bowling of Gurinder Singh. Opener Nitesh Locab managed to score only 5 runs.
Captain Jonathan Rongsen (43 runs) and KP Pawan helped Nagaland reach 200 runs in 39.1 over and Pawan guided the team to victory.
Nagaland will now play their third match against Sikkim on September 23.
