NAVA RAIPUR — Vice President C P Radhakrishnan on Wednesday appealed to all Naxalites to surrender, noting that Naxalism is on the wane due to the combined efforts of security forces and the government in Chhattisgarh.
Addressing the closing ceremony of Chhattisgarh Rajat Mahotsav in Nava Raipur, the Vice President hailed Chhattisgarh's "extraordinary" journey from being one of the youngest states in India to one of the most promising and progressing states.
"Chhattisgarh is proud as we are now ending Naxalism, which has long hindered the state's growth. Peace is a must. Without peace, there can be no development," he said.
"I appeal to all Naxalites to give up arms and surrender before the state administration", he said.
He said peace and stability have been restored in the regions once affected by terrorist violence due to the tireless efforts of Central security forces and state police forces, and commitment of Central and state governments, supported by the active cooperation of local communities.
"The end of red terrorism is being done by the new government of Chhattisgarh, and also great steps are being taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and Union Home Minister Amit Shah ji. They all have been working together to end this red terrorism," the vice president said.
Highlighting Chhattisgarh's achievements since its formation on November 1, 2000, Radhakrishnan said that over the last 25 years, the state has undertaken a remarkable journey of development on social, economic, cultural, and administrative fronts.
Chhattisgarh has shown the world how a region rooted in tradition can march confidently forward with modern economic development and modernity, he said.
"Villages, forests, rivers, and mines in Chhattisgarh narrate stories of both struggle and success, as the people have turned challenges into opportunities through dedication and hard work," the vice president added.
Expressing deep respect for tribal communities, the Vice President said, "For centuries, they have preserved the state's rich natural and cultural heritage. Their harmony with nature and respect for land and collective living serve as a lesson for the entire world in this age of climate change."
Highlighting Chhattisgarh's achievements, Radhakrishnan said the state has undergone transformation across all sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and connectivity.
"Roads, railways, and air links have connected even remote areas to national markets. Even the Naxalite-affected Bastar region is witnessing unprecedented expansion of the railway network, which was never seen in the past," he said.
Radhakrishnan further said that progress is not measured solely by GDP, but also by the smiles on people's faces, the trust they repose in governance, and the hope shining in every child's eyes.
He urged the youth of Chhattisgarh to seize emerging opportunities in artificial intelligence, green technologies, and global markets and contribute to nation-building with courage, creativity, and compassion.
Earlier in the day, the Vice President attended the 'Lakhpati Didi Sammelan' in Rajnandgaon. He described the initiative as a reflection of the strength and determination of women of India.
"The initiative reflects the resolve of women, the Didis, who are turning challenges into opportunities. The term 'Lakhpati Didi' is not just about income but embodies independence, dignity, and confidence," he added.
The vice president stated that thousands of self-help groups led by women are demonstrating how hard work, discipline, and solidarity can transform lives in India.
He said PM Modi's vision of creating three crore Lakhpati Didis is an extraordinary step toward building women-led development.
The vice president described the Lakhpati Didi initiative as a vibrant movement that has enabled over two crore women nationwide and five lakh women in Chhattisgarh to achieve financial independence through SHGs and income-generating activities.
"The leadership of women is growing in Chhattisgarh and across India," he added.
He also hailed the efforts to eliminate the Naxal menace, attributing it to the collaborative vision of PM Modi, Home Minister Shah, the state government, and security forces.
The vice president further observed that creating wealth is as important as distributing it. He added that both the Central and Chhattisgarh governments are effectively pursuing these goals, which have helped reduce challenges such as Naxalism.
Recalling the progress achieved in Chhattisgarh, he stated the state had once lacked water, electricity, and development. However, it now produces electricity for the entire country and has made remarkable improvements in healthcare.
Referring to the recent victory of the Indian women's cricket team in the World Cup, Radhakrishnan drew an inspiring parallel to the social transformation being led by the women of Chhattisgarh.
He also inaugurated a new five-storey facility at Udayachal Health and Research Institute in Rajnandgaon.
Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Raman Singh attended.
The Vice President also witnessed the spectacular air show by the Indian Air Force's (IAF) famed Suryakiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar earlier in the day.
