DIMAPUR, JUNE 2: A delayed report received here on Thursday has reported an assault on the chief veterinary officer of Zunheboto district and his driver by five unidentified men in Kohima town. The official, Dr.Toshi, and his driver, not identified, are said to have been assaulted on May 31 at the High School area around 6 pm. The veterinary officer and his driver were on official duty during the time, the Nagaland Veterinarian’s Association informed in a note to the media on Thursday.
The officer and his driver were manhandled by five men, reportedly Naga, without any reason, the organization stated.
The general secretary of the association, Dr. Michael Imti Imchen recounted the reported incident to Eastern Mirror. He said senior officer Dr. Toshi was returning from Tseminyu and Pughoboto from official duty when he was waylaid and manhandled by five men who were in an unregistered white Gypsy. The five perpetrators did not stop there as they went ahead and snatched the keys of the officer’s vehicle too, it was informed.
According to the NVA secretary, the incident occurred when all of them were in a traffic jam. The five men in the gypsy started honking demanding passage. Even though there was no space, the senior veterinary doctor and his driver still tried to give way for the Gypsy to pass. However, after getting their way out, the men waylaid the officer’s vehicle and resorted to ‘uncivilized action’.
It was informed that a crowd gathered then, which forced the five men to leave the spot. One of the five men who returned the same way after dropping his four friends was apprehended by the police through some witnesses present at the spot. Subsequently, the other four antisocial were arrested.
Strangely, the case was “solved amicably” on June 2 with the five miscreants in the presence of their relatives by the Ao Senso Telongjem of Padumpukuri of Dimapur, it was informed.
