- DIMAPUR — The
Placement Cell of the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry,
Jalukie, a constituent college of Central Agricultural University, Imphal,
organised a career counseling-cum-motivational talk on “Role and prospects of
veterinarians in wildlife with special reference to elephant healthcare and
management” at the college on March 20.
- Prof. Dr. KK Sarma, popularly known as the ‘Elephant Man of
Asia’ and head of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology department at College of
Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara, Assam, attended
the programme. He delivered an insightful lecture on the diverse career
opportunities for veterinarians particularly in wildlife healthcare in general
and elephant healthcare and management in particular.
- Dr. Sarma also emphasised the crucial role of veterinarians
in mitigating human-animal conflicts, managing wildlife emergencies and
ensuring effective healthcare for wild animals especially elephants, stated an
update from the college.
- Additionally, Dr. Sarma provided valuable guidance on
leadership development and encouraged young veterinarians to hone their skills
and strive for excellence in their careers. He also interacted with faculty
members and commended the college's progress under the dynamic leadership of
Dr. I Shakuntala, dean of the College.
- Meanwhile, Dr. Shakuntala has thanked Dr. Sarma for his
visit and igniting the minds of aspiring veterinarians.
- The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from
students, faculty members, staff and scientists from KVK Peren, making it a
significant and memorable occasion.
