Dimapur, Oct. 7: One of the Naga political movement’s most senior leaders, AZ Jami of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (IM), who passed away on Sat. Oct. 6 in Dimapur after a prolonged illness, was laid to rest at his private residence at Diphupar ‘B’ village in Dimapur.
The funeral service for Jami was held at his private residence on Sunday Oct. 7 with tributes from the the Lotha Hoho of Dimapur, Diphupar ‘B’ village council, Diphupar ‘B’ lotha Ekhung, Chudi village, NSCN/GPRN, and friends and well-wishers.
Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland Y Patton expressed deep sorrow at the demise of AZ Jami. Patton stated in a message that Jami was a dedicated and selfless nationalist who sacrificed his entire life for the service of the Naga people.
Patton added that his illustrious career in the Naga political movement for over six decades earned him respect from one and all. He will be remembered as one of the Naga people’s towering personalities in the annals of Naga political history.
‘In his death, we have has lost a dedicated, selfless and sincere patriot who gave his all for the cause of the Nagas, and the void created by his demise shall be impossible to fill,’ the message stated.
Patton has extended his deepest condolence to the bereaved family members and prays that almighty God grant strength and comfort at this difficult time and to the departed soul to rest in eternal Peace.
The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) also condoled with the demise of the veteran. In a condolence message, the organisation described late AZ Jami as a selfless and dedicated leader whose legacy will feature prominently in the history of the Naga political movement. His sacrifice and vision for the Lotha community and the Naga people will always be remembered and shall continue to live in the hearts of the people, the LSU stated. The students’ organisation has expressed condolences, and said prayers, with the bereaved family.
A song in tribute to Jami was sung by two of his two granddaughters. The service was presided over by Pastor Chinithung Shitiri, and the last rites were performed by Rev. Tachow Odyuo.
