KOHIMA, JUNE 24: The 3rd All Nagaland Open Veteran Badminton Tournament commenced today at Indoor Badminton Stadium, at Kohima. Sixty players are taking part in the tournament which has been organized by the Evening Club, Kohima. The event was conducted with the theme “Inspire a new generation.”
The two-day tournament has players from Kohima, Mokokchung, Phek, Zunheboto and Dimapur districts.
The inaugural function was graced by Rovilatuo Mor, Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, as the chief guest.In his address, Mor appreciated the initiatives of the Evening Club to inspire, activate, encourage and lead the new generation. Emphasizing on the importance of games and sports, he said “it is pertinent, relevant and essential for proper guidance to the new generation to pick up the momentum and build dreams in the field of games and sports”.
While pointing out that the state have come a long way in the field of sports and games from the 60s especially in football and badminton, Mor asserted that it is high time to produce eminent and proficient sportsman for both national and international level.
Convenor of Organising Committee, Arep Ao said “due to the positive response from the player since its inception in 2013, this tournament has become an annual event for the last 3 years”. The closing and prize distribution ceremony will be held on June 25 at 4 pm.
