KOHIMA— Nagaland’s reigning wrestling champion Venuzo Dawhuo defeated Chin wrestling (Paih) champion Mang C Lian to lift the Chin Wrestling Championship title.
The match was held at 6601 Coffman Road, Indianapolis, in 46268 United States in the wee hours of Tuesday (1 am) as per the Indian Standard Time (IST).
The wrestling event was held as part of 12th Biennial Convention of Chin Youth Organisation of North America (CYONA) cultural exchange where the champion from Nagaland was invited.
Amidst high speculations of a Naga wrestling champion taking on a ‘Paih’ (Chin traditional wrestling) champion in the US with thousands of fans from Nagaland passionately waiting till midnight, Dawhuo entered the arena with much cheers from the spectators - at the main venue and virtual.
The Naga champion at first entered in the Naga Wrestling style — shirtless and donning half pants. However, he accepted the challenge of his strong contender Mang C Lian to compete in the Chin wrestling style and donned a vest.
