
Dimapur, Jan. 15 (EMN): Vekutho Soho emerged as the champion of 45th wrestling meet of Phek Wrestling Association (PWA) 2022 coinciding with Sökrönye festival, held at Phek village on Jan. 14.
Raleve Chizo, Kuluvezo Soho and Shedekho Hoshi won the second, third and fourth positions respectively, a press release informed.
Thupumutu Chizo was declared the champion of the U-16 category, while Mutsihu Hoshi, Nutsove Venuh and Muguto Chizo secured the second, third and fourth positions.
The top four winners in senior category along with Surhoneyi Soho, Basayi Keyho, Vekuhu Rhakho, Beduhu, Haseo Venuh and Tave Keyho will represent PWA at the upcoming Phek Area Wrestling Association (PAWA) wrestling meet 2022, along with the top four wrestlers in U-16 category.
Earlier, addressing the meet as the special guest, Kuzholuzo Nienu, MLA, stated that a good sportsman needs to go through a certain process of discipline, dedicated training and assured that the pain during the process of training will ultimately become one’s strength.
‘This is a time to test one’s ideas, a test of one’s patience, a test of one’s tactics, a test of tricks, a test of wits, a test of one’s mental and physical fitness and above all, a test of one’s strength’, he stated.
Heipeiding Ilunglang, gave away the prizes to the winners. PWA president, Thuputhiyi Venuh delivered the presidential address, while the welcome address was delivered by Kuzhoniecho Keyho, Phek village council chairman.
