Diphu, June 17 (EMN): Deplorable road conditions continue to wreak havoc on NH-29 as hundreds of vehicles remained stranded at 14th Mile near Dillai in Assam on Monday. Vehicles were left stranded for hours when a loaded truck and bus got stuck in the middle of the road, one of the commuters, named Obed Killing, informed Eastern Mirror.
Vehicles form Nagaland and Manipur commute this road daily. However, the pathetic condition of NH-29 and NH-129, which passes through Karbi Anglong district, is laden with numerous potholes, making it difficult for small cars to travel.
Memoranda were submitted by the Karbi Students Association (KSA) to the then Union Minister for Roads Transport and Highways Nitin Gadhari as well as Assam’s Minister of Transport Chandra Patowary in September 2017 concerning the grave issue. The student body also staged a demonstration on NH-29 and NH-129 by planting paddy and rearing fish on the main road to draw the attention of the National Highway Authority of India on June 4, 2019.
However, the authorities have failed to respond to the demands till date.
