Vechita Khesoh of Yoruba village was on Friday adjudged the champion of the 26th wrestling meet of Chozuba Range Wrestling Association (CRWA) in a play off held at Chozuba town under Phek district. Khesoh was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 60,000 sponsored by Vevo Sapuh, director Art & Culture, Nagaland.
Meanwhile, Vetazo Veswuh from Suthozu Nagwu stood second and pocketed a cash award of Rs. 40,000 sponsored by Apoveyi Nienu, protocol officer Nagaland House Guwahati, and Kuzoto Phesao and Küneshoyi Zu-o, both from Suthozu Nagwu won the third and fourth position respectively. The latter two were awarded Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 10,000 sponsored by Vethisa Lohe, BJP National executive member, (Monitoring Cell) and CRWA respectively.
Earlier, gracing the inaugural function as the chief guest, MLA Küzholüzo (Azo) Nienu in his address said that wrestling is one of the oldest traditional sports that is still popular among the Nagas. He said that wrestling is a game which puts one’s skills to an ultimate test. “It is a test of your strength, a test of your skills, tactics, and a test of patience and stamina, and the person having the required dexterity will become the ultimate winner,” he stated. He called upon the younger generation not to ignore this valuable indigenous sport.Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) former president Sovenyi also graced the meet as the guest of honour. The inaugural function was chaired by CRWA vice president Rüyovo Keyho as chairman while CRWA president Zhopopra Rhakho delivered the presidential address and CRWA general secretary Vezholhü Khüsoh administered the oath to the wrestlers.
