Dimapur, June 24: Junior Education Officer (JEO), Dimapur, Itoshe, today inaugurated a new school building of Government Primary School (GPS) in Valley View, Dimapur. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Itoshe said education could progress only if the community is empowered with their participation. She said progress of the school would depend on sincere activity taken by the community. Without naming any particular school committees, the JEO articulated that funds for the school should not be utilized for ‘selfish interest’ and dictate the school. She also added that the school should not ignore the local participation but rather inculcate sense of belongingness. At the same time, she said the teacher and head teacher should accept each other and contribute towards building the society. While acknowledging criticism pointed towards government schools and teachers, the JEO maintained that government schools are still the best in the state with qualified teachers. She, therefore, urged the teachers to take those criticisms as a challenge and produce the best students. She also urged upon on the teachers to make the best use of the school and compete with private institutions and bring end results positively. Assistant District Coordinator SSA, Freda, remarked that it is high time for government schools to provide quality education. She particularly made mention of Child Tracking System (CTS) introduced in the country which would help tracking the educational and socio-economic status of children in a particular area with accurate data to benefit every child. Highlighting on the CTS, Freda said that it also keeps tap on children with special needs and facilitate establishment to meet their educational needs in an attentive manner and called on the teachers and VEC to notify to the department if they come across children with special needs. She also underlined that CTS tracked the record of the children and streamline these children back to school in a time bound manner through adequate preparation, takes care of enrolment and helps put in order the entire annual work plan and budget. Valley View colony GB, Atoi Chophy, who donated his land to set up the school, mentioned that it was the first development brought by the government in their vicinity. It may be mentioned here that initially the school was running with 64 students with three teachers since its inception in 2004.
