DIMAPUR — The UTT 27th Inter-District and State Table Tennis Championship concluded on October 11, with the Chümoukedima men's team emerging as champions.
The Kohima women's team, meanwhile, secured the champion trophy for the third consecutive time.
Held at the Kohima Indoor Table Tennis Stadium, the tournament was sponsored and supported by Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT), promoted by Vita Dani and Niraj Bajaj, according to an update.
Altogether, 12 districts participated, with 130 athletes competing for the championship title.
Dr. Asalie Khezhie, Deputy Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, in his address as the special guest at the closing ceremony, urged the participants to be committed, dedicated, and punctual in their chosen sport and to pursue excellence.
Being a former table tennis player himself, he lamented the absence of a table tennis coach in Nagaland for the last 30 years. However, he noted that friendly neighbouring states have been invited by the association to coach young talents in the sport and mentioned the overall improvement of players, particularly the women’s team.
He also expressed happiness over the continued support for the sport from veteran players, who not only maintain their health but also promote the game.
