USTM joins Prime Minister Narendra Modi's anti-drug campaign, with 10,000 participants pledging support for a Nasha Mukt Bharat initiative
DIMAPUR — The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) on August 2 joined the nationwide launch of the 'Nasha Mukt Yuva: Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan', inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with nearly 10,000 students, faculty members, NSS volunteers and staff participating in the programme.
A press release stated that the event, held at the university's Central Auditorium, was organised to support the Centre's campaign against substance abuse and promote the vision of a drug-free and developed India.
The programme was attended by USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, Vice Chancellor Prof. GD Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi Nipon Hajong, District Informatics Officer Jonathan Marbaniang, Network Engineer Wanrapbok Kharshandi and Director of Medical Administration Prof. AC Kataki.
Addressing the gathering, Sharma reaffirmed the university's commitment to nurturing socially responsible citizens, while Hoque thanked the Centre and the Meghalaya government for enabling the institution to participate in the national initiative.
Hajong urged students to become ambassadors of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan by spreading awareness against substance abuse in their communities.
The programme also featured the administration of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Pledge, with participants resolving to remain free from substance abuse and contribute towards building a healthier society.
