Naga Homeboiz, winner of the Best Rap/Hip Hop song at the 5th Music Awards of Nagaland is all set to organise a concert series titled ‘Urbanjam’ under the theme “Initiate, Express, Influence” on November 12 from 4:30 pm onwards at State Academy Hall, Kohima.
Naga Homeboiz who won the award for their debut single “Chasing Dreams” is a Rap/Hip Hop group based in Kohima.
The event will be managed by Richa Productions, an enterprise that deals in professional multimedia solutions and event management.
Coordinator of Naga Homeboiz, Martin Longkumer announced this in a press conference held on November 8 at Dream Cafe, Kohima with members from the organizing and managing team, Naga Homeboiz and Richa Productions respectively along with some of the performing artists of the concert.
Addressing the press conference, Martin Longkumer informed about the current hip-hop scenario in Nagaland and how the local musicians struggle a lot because of lack of platform to showcase their talents. He said Naga Homeboiz, one of the major hip-hop group in Nagaland has initiated their first ever event Urbanjam to dispel the misconceptions about hip-hop being just a genre and to create awareness about the vast Hip-Hop culture.
He said the purpose of the series is to, “keep the essence of Hip-Hop and not just commercialise it but show the creative side of it.”
M-Dox, a 19 year old boy who will be performing at the concert said that he began writing songs since he was 16 and that it was in Hip-Hop that he found motivation which prompted him to take a career in it. Macnivil another performer said Hip-Hop, “gave us a voice to share our life story.”
Martin Longkumer also mentioned that the group Naga Homeboiz featured on number 10 on the ReverbNation Rap charts for India. On their future plans he said they plan to take it to Dimapur by December of this year or February next year. Citing financial constraints he is hopeful that with sponsorship and success of the concert series they plan to make it into an annual event.
He informed that the concert will have the first ever live acts in Nagaland on rap battle and beatbox cypher besides open deck scratches, freestyle, b-boy and others. The artists who will be performing are Rugks Ngouri, Moko Koza, Big Dane, M-Dox, Macnivil and dance crew HOP Crew and Stacks Ivories. DJ T-Skillz will be the DJ and Sunep Oz will be the MC of the event.
