Dimapur, Aug. 2 (EMN): In light of the Nagaland government’s recent order to village/colony authorities to check ‘influx of people from outside the state in violation of the existing rules’, two organisations whose jurisdiction covers urban Dimapur have issued notices to all the gaonburra (GB) and chairmen of colonies.
A joint statement from the GB union of Dimapur and the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) informed on Thursday that they have convened a meeting of colony councils, GBs ‘along with youth and women bodies within two weeks’ of this news being published. The leaders will be ‘sensitised about the advisory/directive issued by the state’s Home department.’
The colony authorities have been directed to undertake a census of all tenants from outside the state, with proper verification; instruct ‘house owners’ not to allot space to any new tenant without the consent and approval of the colony council and GBs otherwise the ‘house owners shall be held responsible and answerable.’
The colony authorities have also been directed to undertake verification drives frequently to ensure that ‘unregistered tenants’ are not given shelter. They are not to issue no-objection certificates to ‘outsiders of suspected origin’ and are to report immediately to the authorities about any suspicious activities.
