Mokokchung, October 26
A local youth organization in Mokokchung town has urged the Urban Development department to “seriously implement the project and improve the remaining circular roads in Mokokchung town at the earliest in the interest of public welfare” that the department is said to have been entrusted to work on.
The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) issued a press release on Monday, October containing said statement.
The MTLT said it was ‘pleased’ that the Works & Housing department had “handed over the construction of ten circular roads in Mokokchung Town to the Urban Development Department vide government order No WH/URD-1/2008/600 Dated Kohima, 10 June, 2014.”
“Through that government order, the department has allotted 23370 meters (23.3 kilometers) of circular roads under Mokokchung town to the Urban Development Department (UDD) for ‘improvement of circular roads in Mokokchung town for an initial period of two years’,” the organization said.
The name of the circular roads to be ‘improved, developed and maintained by the Urban Development department’ that the MTLT listed:

10. Improvement of road from district jail (Mariani road) to DIET Yimyu - 2500 meters
(total length is 23370 meters or 23.3 kilometers)
Through said order, the development department has been entrusted with the responsibility of “maintenance and upkeep of the circular roads till the completion of the project,” the MTLT said.
“ The UDD has also been entrusted to maintain the roads for a period of one year after completion of the project before handing back to the PWD (R&B) department.”
The organization also observed that the Urban Development department “has been undertaking the project in the town to some extent and, the circular roads in some sectors in the town have good roads. The public of these sectors are also quite happy with the government for improving the roads.”
“However, the MTLT has also observed that some circular roads in work order are yet to be repaired or improved for whatever reasons the department or the government may have.” But, the press release said, “the MTLT strongly feels that the road must be repaired or improved at the earliest keeping in view that it is the Quasquicentennial year of Mokokchung town.”
“It must be pointed out here that the project was sanctioned in 2014 and one year has already elapsed,” the organization said.
Stating said circumstances, the MTLT strongly appealed to the government, especially the Urban Development department to “seriously implement the project and improve the remaining circular roads in Mokokchung town at the earliest in the interest of public welfare.”
