Dimapur, Mar. 1: Barely a week into his tenure, chief minister Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu has been presented with an old problem that plagued the reign of his predecessor TR Zeliang – unpaid teachers threatening agitation.
More than one thousand Hindi teachers across the state have warned the chief minister of agitation if their salaries, left pending for 9 months, were not paid by March 7 next. The All Nagaland Hindi Teachers’ Union issued a press release informing the same on Wednesday.
It stated that the union had earlier served an ultimatum to the director of school education to release the salaries on or before February 10 this year. “The department failed to fulfil ANHTU demand till date. In this connection ANHTU office bearers with CSS Hindi teachers’ district representatives had an emergency meeting on February 28,” it informed. At the meeting, the teachers decided to extend the ultimatum till March 7 next. The union stated that if the department fails to meet the deadline, then its 1379 CSS Hindi teachers will go for agitation “in phase wise”.
It has informed all CSS Hindi teachers’ district representatives to prepare for the ‘phase wise agitation’ as decided in the meeting.
