Dimapur, May 20 (EMN): The governor of Nagaland has urged universities to play a 'positive role' in shaping the future of students. He was of the opinion that "our products" should be an asset to the society, and ones that can stand on its feet and make the economy of the state strong.
'The governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, stated that the youths of the state have a craze and hunger for education and therefore called on universities to play a positive and dominant role in shaping the future of students and to act as centres of development,' stated a press release from the public relations officer of the governor on Monday.
The governor was stated to have addressed a meeting with vice chancellors of universities, principals of various colleges, and officers from the school and higher education departments, besides the vice chancellor of Nitte
University at Mangaluru, on May 20 at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima, the updates stated.
Saying that the ultimate aim of education was to strengthen the society, the governor urged the educational institutions to "analyse on improving the education system in the state to further improve and empower students so as to compete with others."
"Our products when they come out should be an asset to the society, should be able to stand on their feet and make the economy of the state strong," he said.
Acharya also announced that Nitte Medical University, Alva’s Education Foundation and Moodlakatte Institute of Technology, in collaboration with Indian National Fellowship Centre, had offered 129 concessional seats in their institutions.
Seats will be available in various courses including in nursing, engineering, MBA, pharmacy, journalism, graduate degree courses, Master's courses and physiotherapy for students of the Northeast particularly Nagaland, the press release stated.
"He stated that the details for admission and other information will be announced in the shortly," the press release read.
The governor suggested the universities and colleges in the state to partner with other educational institutions in the country to conduct various programmes for the benefit of students and for national integration, the updates added.
