- CHIZAMI — Minister
for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, on Friday expressed concern over
the increasing fragmentation among the Naga political groups (NPGs) despite
shared goals and aspirations.
- He was addressing an event organised by the Nationalist
Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) unit of 17th Chizami Assembly Constituency
(AC) to welcome leaders from the LJP (RV) party at Chizami village in Phek
district. As many as 54 LJP (RV) leaders from the constituency joined the
ruling NDPP.
- “Instead of coming together stronger and more united, we are
fragmented into so many pieces, which is not good for us at all,” he said.
- The minister emphasised the importance of unity among the
people and political entities to address lingering issues in the state, adding
that the present government is seriously pursuing the Naga political issue as
its top priority in persuading the Centre for an early resolution to the
protracted Naga issue.
- Commending former LJP (RV) leaders for joining NDPP, he
acknowledged their voluntary decision to align with Chief Minister Neiphiu
Rio’s leadership.
- “We never persuaded them; it was their own resolve to
support our leadership because they trust that we will deliver good political
outcomes,” he said.
- Observing the political landscape, Kenye noted that
political discussions have become more constructive as the younger, educated
generation actively engages in relevant societal issues, unlike in decades
past.
- The minister also asserted that the people have realised the
power of their vote with the advancement of technology where everyone can
access information. In this regard, he stated that the people should not be
misguided and warned about being misled by misinformation.
- The minister emphasised the importance of a homegrown,
strong regional party, stressing the need for political stability and
continuity.
- He also highlighted the significance of unity in resolving
lingering political issues unique to the state. “If we unite together, the
sooner we can get that
- resolved,” Kenye remarked.
- Furthermore, the minister called for the region to set an
example of unity and responsible politics for other parts of the state to
follow.
- Meanwhile, Zashesa Lohe, President of LJP (RV) 17th Chizami
AC, announced his resignation from his post and assured support and commitment
to strengthening the leadership of Minister KG Kenye.
- Speeches were delivered by Ngonyi Krocha, Vice-President LJP
(RV) 17th Chizami AC; Vekuyi Cukhamu; and A Chasu Krocha, who were with the
former LJP (RV) candidates for many years.
- They announced that the party leaders from the Assembly
Constituency have not resigned en masse yet but expressed hope that more would
follow their footsteps.
