Twenty cyclists, assembled from the different units of Assam Rifles under IGAR (North) and IGAR (South), are covering the 437-odd kilometers from Kohima to Shillong to commemorate the 181st raising day of the oldest paramilitary force in the country.
They were flagged off on Monday morning at Kohima by IGAR (N), and are scheduled to reach headquarters Shillong on March 20 next. Similar cycling expeditions are being launched simultaneously from other states in the northeast.
Officials from the Assam Rifles said that the expedition is an attempt at highlighting their selfless service towards fostering unity in the region. It has been organized by the 37 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 6 Sector Assam Rifles. The team is scheduled to pedal off from Dimapur on Tuesday morning.
