DIMAPUR — The United Sangtam Students' Conference (USSC) has extended its solidarity and support to the Chakhesang Students' Union (CSU) in demanding the timely completion of the NH-29 two-lane Kohima–Jessami road Package-II project.
In a press release, the USSC expressed deep concern over the prolonged delay in the execution of the vital infrastructure project, despite repeated assurances from the authorities and the contractor, M/S Ratna Infra Project Private Limited.
The conference stated that such delays have caused immense hardship to the public and continue to undermine the developmental aspirations of the people.

Highlighting the importance of the highway, the USSC noted that the NH-29 Kohima–Jessami road is a lifeline for the people of Kiphire district and several other regions of Nagaland. Students, patients, traders, government employees, and citizens rely on this route to access education, healthcare, commerce, and essential services. It added that the deplorable condition of the road has not only jeopardised public safety but has also inflicted significant economic losses on commuters and transporters.
The conference pointed out that with the onset of the monsoon season, the situation has become increasingly critical. The slow pace of work reflects a lack of urgency and accountability on the part of the implementing agencies.
The USSC endorsed the demands raised by the CSU and called upon the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limite and the contractor to take immediate action to restore, maintain, and expedite the project's completion, adding that public welfare must take precedence over bureaucratic delays and contractual complacency.
