IMPHAL — The United Naga Council (UNC) has announced the suspension of its ongoing economic blockade with effect from 6 pm on Saturday, following an agreement reached at in the tripartite talks held with the Government of India and the Government of Manipur in Guwahati on September 26.
“The United Naga Council appreciates the cooperation and solidarity extended by all concerned during the course of the agitation,” read the public notification.
The apex body of the Naga community in Manipur had earlier announced inter-district economic blockade along National Highways in Naga-inhabited areas of Manipur from May 17, demanding justice for six Naga civilians killed in Kangpokpi district after being abducted from Leilon village on May 13 this year. It was intensified from September 9, extending the blockade to NH-2, NH-202 (Jessami), NH-37 (Jiribam) and NH-102A (Tadubi–Ukhrul).

Regarding the tripartite talks, sources said that it was attended by 10-member Naga delegation led by UNC President Ng Lorho, three-member state officers led by Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, and one senior official from the Centre.
The Naga delegation included representatives of the UNC and its working committee; All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur; Naga Women’s Union; Liangmai Naga Council; Rongmei Naga Council; Joint Tribe Council, Manipur; and Naga Peoples’ Organisation.
