DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 15: United Football Club Samziuram today lifted the Futsal Tournament organised by Baptist Youth Endeavour of Liangmai Baptist Phumling, New Jalukie in Peren district.
In the final match of the three-day tourney, United FC defeated Baptist Youth Endeavour of Liangmai Baptist Phumling New Jalukie by 5-1.
The champions received cash award of Rs 15,000 with medals and citations while the runner-up got Rs 8000 with medals and citations.
The individual awardees of the tourney are:
Best Player - Paul of BYE LBP, Best Goal Keeper - Zachariah of Brothers Sporting Club New Jaukie and Highest Scorer - Gail Angami of United FC Samziuram.President of Nagaland Football Coaches Association and former International Football player, Roko Angami gracing the valedictory programme as the chief guest encouraged the players to be sincere and dedicated to take up sports professionally. Hard work, patience and discipline will lead them to achieve greater heights, he said.
Naga mentality was to play in the first 11 but one has to understand that their coaches know better when and where they should be placed, he said.
He appealed them to respect elders and seek their blessing to excel, while urging them to avoid intoxicants to be good sportsperson. Kick out all bad habits, humble yourself and practice hard to achieve your goals, he added. Futsal needs more skill as the laws in it are too many, he said.
Pointing out that Zeliangs in general used to produce quality players, he lamented that the players were degrading. He encouraged players not to be proud of playing within their area but aim to go out and bring laurel to the people.
Roko also asserted the players that he would extend all possible help for them to appear for football trial in different clubs.
Roko also gave away the prizes to the winners.
