Dimapur, Feb. 26 (EMN): There are 39 ongoing roadway projects in Nagaland at a cost of INR 9205.96 crore under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The 39 roadway projects will cover a length of 805.55 km, and it is likely to be completed by May 2024, informed G Kishan Reddy, Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) in the Rajya Sabha.
He informed that there are as many as 213 road projects in the north-eastern states, which will cover a length of 4016.48 km at a cost of INR 58,385 crore.
On air connectivity, a total of 28 projects have been completed from 2016-17 to 2021-22 in the Northeast with an approved cost of INR 975.58 crore and completion cost of INR 979.07 crore.
There are also 15 ongoing projects amounting to INR 2,212.30 crore and these projects are likely to be completed by March 2023, he said.
The government is implementing flagship schemes such as Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) and Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) for strengthening of sub-transmission and distribution of infrastructure including rural electrification: North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project’ (NERPSIP) in six states -- Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland -- for strengthening of the intra-state transmission and distribution system (33kV and above); and comprehensive schemes for strengthening of transmission and distribution systems in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim for improving the power connectivity in the region, he added.
The Bharat Net project is implemented in a phased manner to provide broadband connectivity to all Gram Panchayats in the country, including Northeast, and the funds disbursed for NER under this scheme is INR 640.01 crore during the last five years, he stated.
Under the scheme for provision of mobile services in uncovered villages in Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh (National Highways only) of NER and seamless coverage along National Highway, the installation work of the feasible sites has been completed and the funds disbursed under this scheme is INR 633.88 crore during last five years, the minister informed.
Besides that, 215 infrastructure projects costing INR 1,267.48 crore have been sanctioned under the schemes of North Eastern Council during 2016-17 to 2020-21. Out of these, 15 projects costing INR 93.83 crore have been completed and 200 projects costing INR 1,173.65 crore are at various stages of implementation, he added.
