
Dimapur, Aug. 29 (EMN): Commandant of the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School (ARTC&S) Brigadier Arjun Segan has called upon the uniformed personnel to constantly strive to adhere to the law of the land and uphold the values enshrined in the constitution regarding human rights.
Segan stated this in his address at the annual Northeast zone inter-Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) debate competition on the topic “Human rights acts as a hindrance to the security forces in performing their duties” organised at ARTC&S, Shokhuvi, on August 28. The main aim of the debate was to sensitise the security personnel about the importance of strict adherence to human rights while dealing with the public.
Segan appreciated the efforts put in by the participants and made a special reference to the efficient conduct of the event by the organisers and conveyed good wishes to prize winning teams for semi finals and finals round of debate competition to be held at Kolkata and New Delhi. He also conveyed his personal thanks and appreciation to the three eminent judges for their valuable inputs and contribution.
An update from the security forces stated that seven teams from NE-based CAPF namely BSF, CRPF, CISF, SSB, ITBP, RPF and Assam Rifles participated in the contest. It added that keeping in view the ongoing pandemic scenario and limitations in gathering, the competition was held through webinar.
Member of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission and retired Meghalaya DGP PJP Hanaman, IGP Kohima, Limasunep Jamir, and editor of Nagaland Today Bano Haralu were the jury members of the event.
A total of 28 speakers debated on the topic in Hindi and English with 14 speakers each ‘for’ and ‘against’ the motion.
It stated that Assam Rifles secured the 1st position and BSF secured 2nd position in English language debate category, while the ITBP secured 1st position and BSF secured 2nd position in the Hindi language category.
The two best teams in both the English and Hindi categories namely Assam Rifles and BSF as well as ITBP and BSF have been selected to represent the Northeast zone in the semi-finals of inter-CAPF debate competition scheduled at Kolkata on September 4 and 5.
