
Dimapur, July 4 (EMN): In another milestone achievement for Nagaland police, the director general of police (DGP) T John Longkumer, inaugurated a police outpost building at Dillai gate, bordering Assam on July 4.
Speaking on the occasion, Longkumer advised the policemen, who would be posted at the border gate, to create good image of the state police by being smart, efficient, polite and kind. He reminded that the first impression of the state police should be created in the border areas.
He cited an example of 9th IR personnel, whom he described as smart and disciplined, for bringing good reputation to Nagaland in Chhattisgarh.
"You are here to give protection to the citizens and not to harass and therefore stern action would be initiated in such instances,” the police chief warned.
Longkumer also appealed to the police personnel to make the building "a house of respect" and advised them to maintain sanctity of the building. He also congratulated the commissioner of police, Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo and DCP Zone-2, Atula, for completing the works and making it functional within a short period of time.
Longkumer has also appreciated the Team Dimapur including the medical fraternity, churches, civil societies, NGOs and individuals for rendering their selfless sacrifice in the fight against Covid-19.
"You have all done very well and I will say your performance was simply outstanding," he added.
Also speaking on the occasion, the agriculture production commissioner (APC) and in-charge of Dimapur district for Covid-19 activities, Y Kikheto Sema, felt that with the new police outpost, the mindset, attitude and way of living of the people residing in the border areas ought to change. Sema called upon the Nagas for a peaceful and cordial relations with their immediate neighbours.
He encouraged the police personnel, who would be posted at the gate, to keep the building clean and make it a place of prayer by refraining from drinking and smoking.
Sema also donated a refrigerator towards the new police post building.
Delivering a welcome address, Tetseo noted that establishment of a police outpost building at Dillai gate was an important chapter in the history of the Nagaland police. While impressing upon the people living in the border areas to understand the importance of the facility, he sought their support and co-operation to enable them function effectively.
He also informed that the construction work of the building, which commenced on April 30, 2020, could be completed within a record time of two months with quality workmanship.
Speaking on behalf of the district administration, EAC (Sardar) Bendang Longkumer congratulated the Dimapur police led by the commissioner of police for constructing the facility in a record time for the benefit of the Nagas. He suggested that such people-centric development activities should take place from time to time for the welfare of the people.
With the support and co-ordination between the district administration and Dimapur police, Bendang was optimistic that Dimapur would become a better place to live in.
Chairman of Rilan village, John Kikon, appreciated the state government for establishing the police outpost. Terming the establishment of the police post as a dream come true, Kikon expressed confidence that it would benefit the people living in the border areas, while the chairman of Aokong village assured full co-operation to the police department.
Hosts of police officials, including IG (Range) Limasunep, DIG (Training) Aotemsu, DIG (Border) and other rank and file of police, villagers from the bordering villages attended the inaugural function.
ADCP (Crime) Relo Aye chaired the programme, while pastor of PBC, Rev. Levi Rakho said the dedicatory prayer.
