Educated unemployed youth in Wokha organise an angling competition to promote recreation and self-employment.
DIMAPUR — A group of educated unemployed youth organised an angling competition at Z Lotha Fisheries, Ekoki village, Wokha, on August 8, aimed at promoting recreational fishing, community participation and alternative avenues of livelihood and entrepreneurship.
According to a DIPR report, the “Exciting Day of Fishing” offered fishing enthusiasts and families an opportunity to participate in an outdoor recreational activity.
Pipen Erui won the first prize of INR 50,000, while Shanpemo Kithan secured the second position and received INR 25,000. Aben Murry was declared the third winner and received INR 10,000.
The event followed a “one person, one rod” rule, with special prizes of INR 3,000 each for the Biggest Catch and First Catch, besides 10 consolation prizes of INR 2,500 each.

The second prize money of INR 25,000 was sponsored by NSCN  President Akato Chophy as an initiative to support the efforts of the youth. The organisers also received support from a few other individuals who sponsored the consolation prizes.
The organisers said the event was intended not only to provide entertainment but also to demonstrate how young people could come together and create opportunities through their own initiative and enterprise.
