We know that our Democratically Elected leaders of Nagaland have inherited an empty coffer from their predecessor but when they trying to fill up that empty coffer by selling the rights of their own people who have elected them. They do not hear the voice of the angry people. They should know that the powerin a democracy isderived from the people sotheyshould act according to the desire and will of the people, yet they are acting arbitrarily.
The recent scuffle between the Democratically elected adamant Ministers and the democratic peopleclear the doubts of the people over their educational qualification. They have no clue of what democracy is and how democracy works. This is clearly defined by their recent action and attitude towards the voice of the democratic free people.
In a democracy government is chosen by the people so they have the right to be consulted on how to be governed. The power which they holds is given by the people, anytime if the people are not satisfied with them they can take the power back. A government without the support of the people is powerless; thereforethey should go with the will of the people and not against the people will as their source of power lies with the people. A legitimate government is one where groups, through participation, acquire a stake in the system.
When the verdict is given by the democratic citizen of Nagaland against the ULB,they have no right to go against the people’s will or wish. Instead ofstandstill with the people who are practicing their democratic in fact they should call all Apex bodies, different NGO’s as there is room for dialogue and negotiation in democracy. What different Apex bodies NGO and groups are doing is they are doing their duties in democracy. It is their duties to safeguard the rights of the people, to expose and oppose the wrong doing of the government. They have a great role to play in democracy for smooth governance.
Many rulers who believed that their power is absolute and their word is final and binding have ended their head at stake.King Louis XVI ruled Francearbitrarily, and he had no knowledge and aspiration of the people. He was surrounded by fools and buffoons who gave him wrong advice. King Louis XVI made the blunder of dismissing Finance Minister Jacques Necker. The people of Paris did not approve of the dismissal, which forced the King to call the National Assembly including the third Estate. On 20th June 1789 the member of the third estate went to their usual meeting place, but they found that their entrance was blocked by soldiers. They were informed that the carpenters needed to prepare the hall for a royal speech in two days and the same had been closed. Weather did not allow an outdoor meeting so the assembly moved their deliberations to a nearby indoor real tennis court, where they proceeded to swear the Tennis Court Oath (20th June 1789) under which they agreed until they have given France a constitution.
On 23rd June 1789 the special royal session was held. The king declared the recent act of the third estate as illegal and unconstitutional. He also ordered that the three estates should meet separately. The king and the Nobility and the Clergy left the hall in a spirit of victory. However the members of the third estate remained in the hall and did not leave. Soldiers were posted at the gate with the intention to drive out the members of the third estate. At this time Mirabeau one of the members of the third estate went straight to the master of the ceremonies and thundered thus “Go tell your master that we are here by the will of the People and that we shall not leave except at the point of the bayonet”. On a motion of Mirabeau, it was voted that all person who should lay violent hands on any member of National Assembly would be infamous traitor to the nations and guilty of capital crimes. De Breeze reported the defiant eloquence to the king. All eyes were fixed upon the latter. Not knowing what to do Louis made a motion indicating weariness then said”They wish to remain, do they? Well then.
No sooner was this crisis over another began to develop. A second attempt was made by the king again, inspired by the court, to suppress the assembly or at least to intimidate it, to regain that had been lost. King Louis XVI dismissed Necker and asked to leave the country immediately, which eventually led to the biggest revolution leading to the beheading of the absolute ruler King Louis XVI and his Queen Maria Antoinette by the people.
When there is struggle between the people and the government in democracy, the people always win. They should never underestimate the power of the people in democracy or they will end like Hosni Mubarak former President of Egypt and former king Gyannendra of Nepal. They may lose their throne.
People voice is the truth and truth always wins. They may hide behind water canon or behind the barricade and ready to shoot the people that will not keep them safe from truth for a very longtime. When people march for truth “God” will march with the people and their wall of defence will crumble like dust. They may try to suppress the truth by resorting to violence; they may give order to shoot at or beat the people. Yes, some will fall but others will take their place, they may beat them down but will rise up again and take the beating again but the people will never surrrender. The truth will put fear in the heart of the oppressor and will force to run away. Supreme sacrifice will be made if necessary because there is no greater joy and honour to sacrifice for truth, the Truth will give the people power, courage and strength to fight. And at the end”Truth Will Always Wins”
