DIMAPUR — Acting on Nagaland government directives, the Dimapur district administration on February 25 ordered the immediate closure of all unauthorised check gates operating across the district following an inspection drive.
According to a DIPR update on Thursday, the inspection team—led by SDO (C) Dimapur Wiridin, and accompanied by ADCP Kelem Toshi Jamir, police personnel and Dobashis—carried out surprise checks amid persistent complaints of illegal collection of money from vehicles by certain organisations, groups, government agencies and private individuals, despite repeated warnings in the past.
During the drive, check gates at Dillai gate, Duncan check gate, Thahekhu gate, FCI godown at Kevijau colony, New Field check gate and the Old Khatkati Road check gate at Burma Camp were found to be unauthorised and were closed down on the spot.
However, the inspection team found that check gates at Benjak Phom colony (Walford check gate) and the East Dimapur Town Council check gate near Zion Hospital junction were still operational.

It stated that specific instructions would be issued for the dismantling and complete removal of these structures. All check gates set up by departments, municipal bodies and town councils have been directed to strictly comply with the government order.
The district administration asserted that no unauthorised check gate would be allowed to function in violation of the directive and warned that regular surprise inspections would continue with the support of the respective SPs and DCPs to ensure compliance.
It cautioned that any unauthorised check gate found operational in the future—including those run by private groups or individuals—would invite prosecution under Sections 188 and 384 of the IPC.
Disciplinary action will also be initiated against officials found responsible, the administration warned.
