Dimapur, Aug. 6 (EMN): With the purpose to determine the viability of granting autonomous status to St. Joseph’s College Jakahama, the University Grants Commission (UGC) team inspected the college on Mon. Aug. 6.
The UGC team included Manipur University Vice Chancellor Prof. A.P. Pandey as chairperson, School of Chemical Sciences, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya Prof. Ashok Sharma, Principal and Ramakhrishna Mission Vivekananda Dr. Swami Kamalasthananda as members.
Director Higher Education Nagaland Kuholi Chishi represented as state nominee, Dept. of Botany, Dean, RDC, Nagaland University Prof. S.K Chaturvedi as University nominee, and UGC section officer PN Gupta as coordinating officer.
The team was received with a special reception programme arranged by the college. SJC Principal Dr. Fr. S. Ousepparampil,in his welcome address, expressed his desire for the college to rise to a greater height and stressed on the need for granting autonomy to the college to be able to scale greater heights in the coming days.
On behalf of the UGC team, Prof. Pandey, the chairperson of the team, expressed his great satisfaction at the well-developed infrastructure of the college although the college is located in an interior part of the country, stated a press release from the college.
It stated that Prof. Pandey expressed his confidence that the college will soon become one of the leading educational institutions in the entire North East India. Prof. Pandey also applauded the teachers and students for their dedication shown by the impressive development that has been achieved at the college.
‘Even though it was difficult to get things done in such part of the land, the college was doing great’, the team observed as per the press release.
