Dimapur, April 27 (EMN): The University Grants Commission (UGC) has debarred Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences (SHIATS), Allahabad from offering distance education programme 2016-17 to 2019-20.
The notification was issued by Joint Secretary, UGC, Dr. Avichal Kapur vide F.No. 52-1/2016 (DEB-III dated 24th April, 2017 for information of the general public that in exercise of its power given in UGC, Act 1956 (as amended), UGC has issued circular dated 27.06.2013 particularly on adherence of Territorial Jurisdiction Policy for the colleges/private institutions/Deemed to be Universities involved in providing/awarding degrees and courses, programmes etc. through Distance Education from their study centres.
The Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences (SHIATS), Allahabad-211007 has continuously violated the norms/guidelines/directives and UGC (Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2016 framed by UGC particularly on adherence of territorial jurisdiction policy.
Accordingly, UGC has decided to:
Debar SHIATS, Allahabad from offering any programme through Open and Distance Learning mode for a period of four year i.e. from the academic session 2016- 17 to 2019-20.
Direct SHIATS not to admit any student in any of its Distance Education programme during the debarred period mentioned at (a) above.
It further informed that UGC vide letters dated 21-03-2016 and 05.07.2016 has intimated SHIATS, Allahabad that the admission process for Distance Education Programmes from the academic year 2016-17 should not be initiated before obtaining prior approval from UGC.
All concerned have been advised not to take admission in any course/ programme of Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences (SHIATS), Allahabad through distance education mode from academic session 2016-17 to 2019- 20.
