[dropcap]U[/dropcap]nion of Evangelical Students of India (UESI) Nagaland today celebrated 50 years of ministry in evangelizing post-matric students at Japfü Christian College, Kigwema, Kohima. The celebration was held on the theme “Enlarge your vision”.
Delivering the message of celebration, former Zonal Secretary of UESI and presently Pastor of Shillong Baptist Church, Rev Malsawma Vanchhawng called upon UESI Nagaland to affirm Jesus Christ as their personal lord and also of the movement in the State.He said UESI should follow the commission of the Lord to make disciples in order to enlarge their vision by having concern for those around them and take them closer to the Lord. “We should imbibe the lifestyle of Jesus and be true disciple,” he said.
Greetings on the occasion were also shared by Zonal Secretary NE UESI, Moatoshi Imsong and President of UESI Manipur.
The first president of UESI Nagaland in 1965, Prof. Tali Alinger released the jubilee souvenir and offered prayer of blessing.
Dwelling on the history of UESI Nagaland, Dr Viu Meru said “UESI is a student’s ministry initiated sixty years ago in Chennai (then Madras) and fifty years ago in Nagaland by Prof. Tali Alinger with a vision ‘Transformed students impacting the campuses and the nation as disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ’”.
The mission of the UESI movement is to evangelize post-matric students of India, nurture them as disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ so that they may serve the Church and the society.
The focus or emphasis of the UESI is to study the word of God and do personal evangelism among students and graduates.
The main principle of the ministry is ‘holding the centrality of Scriptures’ reinforced by stressing the importance of ‘Quit Time’ which is the source of personal spiritual strength and vitality.
Chaired by UESI Nagaland president Dr Neizo Puro, praise & worship was led by Patkai Music Ensemble. D K Zeliang said the opening prayer while Khaikho N Lam shared the impact of UESI on his personal life.
The way forward was presented Lanu Tzudir while vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Visakhonü Hibo. Special numbers were presented by choirs of Japfü Christian College and Kohima Science College.
