MOKOKCHUNG — Tzusapang Sector, a vital and diverse community within Mokokchung village, celebrated its silver jubilee on August 30 with the advisor of Law and Justice and Land Revenue, TN Manen, as the as the special guest.
In his address, Manen, who is also a resident of Tzusapang Sector, emphasised the importance of expanding Mokokchung to keep pace with global dynamics. He called on the landowners of Mokokchung, Ungma and Khensa villages to adopt a forward-looking approach to facilitate this growth.
Manen also reflected on the contributions of the British during their rule in the region, particularly in curbing headhunting practices, enhancing village connectivity and establishing the Dobashi (DBs) and Gaon Bura (GBs) systems.
“These institutions were crucial in upholding and safeguarding Naga customary laws and practices,” he said.
He, however, expressed concern over the erosion of respect for those positions, which have been revered since the colonial era. He, therefore, urged the community to nominate individuals who are committed to preserving those traditions and serving justice.
In his jubilee message, Manen highlighted the importance of unity and forgiveness, encouraging the community to work together towards a vibrant and progressive society.
"We are living in a temporary world; therefore, let us live in unity," he urged the gathering.
The celebration also witnessed unveiling of the jubilee monolith and release of jubilee souvenir by Manen.
Short speech was also delivered by Mapu Longkumer, chairman of Riosanger Putu Menden and convenor of Seven Sectors Telongjem, and Imowati, chairman of the Tzusapang Sector Committee, delivered the welcome address.
The jubilee marked a significant milestone for Tzusapang Sector, which was formed through the merger of Alisungkum and Baptist Compound in 1999. The sector has since grown into a melting pot of diverse communities, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Mokokchung.
