Dimapur, Aug. 10 (EMN): Two ULFA (I) cadres were arrested during a joint operation launched by the Army and Assam Police at Mangoan Tekri, Tinsukia in Assam on August 6.
“During the operation, the security forces nabbed two active cadres of ULFA (I) along with two live Chinese made hand grenades,” a press release from Defence PRO said on Saturday.
According to the press release, the apprehended ULFA (I) cadres have been identified as Corporal Polo Asom @ Rohit Kuli, resident of Gojupuria village in Sadiya district (active since 2011) and SS Pvt Ridip Asom @ Pranab Jyok Baruah, resident of Shantipur village in Dhemaji sistrict (active since 2019)
The nabbed insurgents along with the seized items have been handed over to police for further investigations.
“The operation is part of the heightened levels of security ahead of Independence Day to counter the insurgent groups from disrupting peace in Upper Assam,” the release added.
