[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ne Assam Rifles personnel and two suspected cadres of Manipur based armed group Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) have been reportedly killed while one jawans of 13 Assam Rifles(AR) sustained injury during two different gun battles somewhere near the jungle of Kambiron village under Nungba police station in Manipur’s Tamenglong district in the last 24 hours, reports reaching here claimed.
The reports added the first encounter took place around 8pm last night wherein one suspected ultra suspected to be a ZUF cadre was reportedly killed. Another informed source added that the second incident occurred at around 6.30 am today wherein one more suspected ZUF cadre was killed while one jawan of 13 AR posted at Khongsang were reported killed while another AR jawan sustained injury. The deceased AR personnel has been reportedly identified as one T Gohul of Lamshang in Imphal West district while the two suspected ZUF cadres were also identified.Two AK 47 rifles and some other arms and ammunition were also recovered from the encounter sites, report added. However no official press statement is yet to make available to the local media till the report goes to the press.
In another development, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Command Lt Gen MMS Rai who arrived here in the state on a day’s visit to Headquarters Inspector General of Assam Rifles(South) at Mantripukhuri and 57 Mountain Division at Leimakhong, visited the Indo-Myanmar border areas on Thursday to review the situation. On his arrival on Wednesday, he was briefed on the prevailing security situation in the State by IGAR(S) and GOC 57 Mountain Division. General Rai reviewed the operational preparedness of both the formations during his first official visit to the state, according to a press release issued by PRO Assam rifles.
AMWJU to open branch offices
The All Manipur Working Joutnalists’ Union(AMWJU)is all set to open its branch offices in many parts of the in order to have proper news coverage across the state including the remote places. This was conveyed to media by the AMWJU President Wangkhemcha Shyamjai during a brief press interaction at Manipur Press Club at majorkhul in imphal today.He said AMWJU is planing to launch new branch offices in various locations such as Jiribam, Mao, Moreh to get the proper news coverage. A team of AMWJU members is also planning to go to Thanga as part of its internal tour program.AMWJU members will be meeting the LDA (Loktak Development Authority) and interact with the authority about the ongoing projects in the areas.
