In what has turned out to be a tragedy, two students from Hill View Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung, who went on a picnic on May 2, got drowned in the Dikhu river. Police have identified the victims as 18-year-old Samanuksung, son of Lipokchuba from Mongsenyimti village, and Ikheto Sumi, son of Zuheto Sumi from Mapulumi village, both class-12 students of Hill View Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. when Samanuksung, who went to retrieve his friend’s slipper fell into the river (the area were the water is deep). In an attempt to save his friend, Ikheto Sumi jumped into the river, but he also ended up losing his life.
On receiving the information, police personnel along with youth and volunteers from Chuchuyimpang, Mongsenyimti and Sumi community rushed to the spot in large number to retrieve the bodies.
Samanuksung’s body was recovered at around 6 p.m. the same evening. However the body of second victim was recovered the following day in the wee hour at around 2 a.m.
In this connection, the principal of the school has lodged an FIR at police station-I, Mokokchung. The case is registered under case No. 001/15, under/Section 174 Crpc. The panic party included 21 students and 4 teachers.
