Two Naga police officers receive meritorious service award

Two police personnel from Nagaland are among the recipients of the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM) award on the occasion of Republic Day.

The two police officers are Rhovisie Nyuwi, Commandant 12th NAP IR Battalion, Chingtok Longleng and Vipin Yhoshu, Inspector, DEF Mokokchung.

According to a PIB report, a total of 946 police personnel in the country have been awarded medals on the occasion of Republic Day. Under the gallantry medals, there are two awardees under President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) and 205 awardees under Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG). Under the service medals, there are 89 awardees under President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM), and 650 awardees under Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM).

The report stated that, among the majority of the 207 gallantry awards, one PPMG to Jharkhand (Posthumous) and one PPMG to CRPF (Posthumous) is being awarded, 137 personnel are being awarded for their gallant action in Jammu & Kashmir, 24 personnel for their gallant action in Left Wing Extremism affected areas and one personnel for his gallant action in North-East region.

Among the personnel receiving gallantry awards, 68 are from CRPF, 52 are from J&K Police, 20 are from BSF and 17 are from Delhi Police, 13 are from Maharashtra, eight are from Chhattisgarh, eight are from Uttar Pradesh and the remaining from the other states /UTs and CAPFs, it added.
