TWO more bodies were recovered from the violence-hit B Sector area of Assam-Nagaland border on Thursday.
The bodies lay buried and were dug out by the police with assistance from locals. The victims, both males and hailing from Bilgaon, were reported missing since August 18.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday took stock of the prevailing law and order situation in Golaghat district and relief measures taken by the district administration for the inmates.
Gogoi spoke to Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat Julie Sonowal and took stock of the latest law and order situation. The DC, while apprising the Chief Minister of the latest law and order, said the situation was fast returning to normalcy.
Meanwhile, 29 additional fixed security pickets have been set up in the B Sector to provide security to the people living there.
“The pickets are being manned by four companies of CRPF and five companies of SSB personnel.
Three additional companies of Assam Police battalions are also stationed there. Additional barracks for the security forces will be constructed by the Superintendent of Police, Golaghat with the help of forest department. Necessary funds have been earmarked for this purpose,” an official release said.
Following the improvement in the law and order situation along the inter-state border and in the entire district, 5,099 inmates living in relief camps have returned home. 147 inmates have left the camps in the last 24 hours. Of the 14 relief camps opened by the district administration, three have been closed down. Altogether 9,837 displaced persons of 16 villages were living in relief camps as on August 15 last.
“The Chief Minister instructed the Deputy Commissioner to ensure regular supply of relief materials to the inmates and rehabilitate the affected at the earliest. Gogoi also asked the administration not to let its guard down and to keep a close watch on the situation to thwart the evil machinations of some forces at work,” the release added.
