Dimapur, Oct. 24: Two elephants were reportedly found electrocuted in Wokha district's Sanis after coming into contact with a live electric cable.
The carcasses of a mother elephant and a calf were found electrocuted a week ago in a jungle approximately 2 km away from Sanis, sources reported. Some Dobashi, police personnel and Forest department officials were sent to ascertain the report but they could not locate the site, an official from the Sanis administration told Eastern Mirror. The official did not wish to be named.
On Wed. Oct. 24, after receiving reports of sightings by a hunter about the carcasses, the source said that the team found the decomposed carcasses in a jungle.
When the Wokha division of the Forest department was contacted for more details, the official referred to contact the chief wildlife warden of Nagaland. At the time this report was being filed, more details were being awaited as investigation was on and the team was at the site, the chief wildlife warden informed.
