Two persons died while cleaning a deep ring well at Oriental colony in Dimapur, with suspected methane gas exposure

DIMAPUR — Two persons died while attempting to clean a ring well at Oriental colony in Dimapur on Tuesday.
According to SDRF rescue team commander Havildar Yevuxu Swu, the team received a distress call around noon and immediately launched a rescue operation.
The deceased were identified as Tongpangkumzuk, 48, and Panglong, 26. They were reportedly cleaning a ring well at a neighbour’s house when the incident occurred.
Swu said the bodies were handed over to their respective families after completion of police formalities.
The deaths are suspected to have been caused by methane gas, he said, adding that oxygen levels can decrease as the depth of a ring well increases.
He said that the well was deep and narrow, making it difficult for the rescue team to retrieve the bodies. The rescue operation was completed around 2 pm.
