Mokokchung, Dec. 13 (EMN): A two-day badminton tournament organised by Tzurangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (TKM) on the theme ‘Endurance’ got underway at Longpayimsen village, approximately 70 km away from Mokokchung on Monday.
The tournament was kicked off by Akum O Tzudir, secretary, Nagaland State BJP and OSD to minister Temjen Imna Along.
In his speech, he stated that a never surrender attitude is one of the best qualities of a sportsperson and said that sheer willpower is important when the players have exhausted all their techniques and ideas in the game.
He expressed regret that because of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, many developmental projects have piled up and acknowledged the constituency for their patience during such a difficult situation in the state.
TKM, president, Imlisunep in his welcome address said that the tourney was organised to strengthen the bond and work towards more cooperation in the field of sports, social and welfare activities.
He also expressed hope that through this event many young talents will be discovered and that these talents will bring laurels to the range as they get exposed and participate in bigger platforms.
Short speeches were delivered by chairman, Longpayimsen Village Council and secretary, Tzurangkong Senso Mungdang.
More than 80 players are taking part in the two-day Badminton tournament which will culminate on Dec. 14. The categories in the tourney include under-14 doubles for boys and girls, under-19 doubles for boys and girls and open category doubles for men and women.
