Our Correspondent Imphal, Nov. 18 (EMN): The two-day East Zone Vice-Chancellors’ meet concluded at Manipur University on Nov. 18 Sat. Manipur Education Minister Th Radheshyam Singh; President Prof PB. Sharma, Association of Indian Universities(AIU), Secretary General; Prof Furqan Qumar of AIU; Vice-Chancellor Prof Adya Prasad Pandey of Manipur University; Director Prof Amerandra Pani of Research and editor, University News Association of Indian Universities attended the valedictory function as Chief Guest, President, and guests of honours, respectively. Minister Radheshyam in his speech stated, ‘we all are serious about the present and the future of the country’ while expressing that Dr. Radha Krishnan was one of the Presidents of the association which itself is the greatest achievement of the association. While addressing the gathering, he appealed the galaxy of vice-chancellors on having a separate university in the Northeast which will exclusively deal with research activities. Appealing specifically to the association, the minister said that the association should have support system by which all the universities will get equal benefit inorder to prosper equally. Prof PB. Sharman his presidential speech, asserted that it is the association’s responsibility to ensure that Manipur and North Eastern states march together in the path of progress, prosperity and development ensuring that it becomes the major gateway of prosperous India. The overall purpose of the university is to produce people with competency, character, peace and harmony so that they are seen as respectable and a responsible person in the field of higher education, stated Prof PB. Sharman. In his opinion he pointed out that employment growth which is 25% on average should rise to 90% however it should go beyond 125% in the field of higher education in the university. With theme ‘Future Universities: Challenges and Opportunists for Relevance and Excellence’, the two-day East Zone Vice-Chancellors’ meet was inaugurated at Manipur University on Friday. The meet deliberated on a plethora of issues keeping in view the global trends, national preparedness and requirements at achieving the objective of relevance and excellence.
