
Workers clear debris and silt from a clogged drain in
Dimapur as part of a two-day cleanliness drive initiated to mitigate
waterlogging ahead of the monsoon season.
- DIMAPUR — With
the monsoon season fast approaching and the recurring hazard of waterlogging in
Dimapur town, Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) councillor from Ward No. 5, Kuhoi
Zhimo, initiated a drain-cleaning drive in key areas of the ward.
- According to an update, the two-day drive, conducted on
March 24 and 25, covered the Namghar School area, Police Colony, Namgalong
Colony, and culminated in Bank Colony.
- It said that the initiative was undertaken as a proactive
measure to prevent the perennial problem of clogged drains, which causes severe
waterlogging and inconvenience to residents each year. Over the course of the
drive, all major drains in the aforementioned colonies were cleaned to ensure
better drainage during the monsoon.
- Speaking on the initiative, Councillor Kuhoi Zhimo noted
that residents face waterlogging issues every year due to clogged drains. He
emphasised that the cleanliness drive was an effort to tackle the problem
before the onset of the monsoon.
- The ward councillor expressed gratitude to all the colony
councils for their participation and acknowledged the Dimapur Municipal Council
for providing the necessary labour force to carry out the cleaning drive
efficiently.
