Kohima, April 11 (EMN): Youngest writer from Nagaland Sofia Livimi Swu, who released her third and fourth children's books—“Alphabet poems” and “Whimsical poems for kids” on Monday in Kohima—encouraged all to read as many books as possible in order to learn new things.
Sofia, who recently turned nine, has penned two books prior to releasing her new collection of poems on Monday. ‘My adventure in Fairyland’ and ‘My adventure in Christmas Land’, written by her, were released when she was seven years old.
Speaking during her book launch at Hotel Japfu, Sofia said that she wishes to become a baker or an artist, or a gardener when she grows up.
A class four student at Bumblebee Inclusive School, Kohima, Swu has written and illustrated all her books.
Her mother, Shekali Swu, said that Sofia loves drawing and her drawings have a story to tell. When she was five years old, her phonic class started which helped her to read on her own early on, she said.
She said reading interests her and she has finished reading quite a good number of books already. She either shares her ideas through writing or verbally, Swu said.
Special educator and proprietor of Bumblebee Inclusive School, Kohima, Kopele Mero Tepa, said that Swu’s book launching is a proud moment for the school.
Home is the first environment where children are exposed to various forms of learning, she said while congratulating her parents.
She described Sofia as an outspoken, carefree, and expressive child. Be it writing or reading, she is extraordinary and intelligent, the educator added.
Agriculture Production Commissioner Y Kikheto Sema while releasing the books encouraged her to also consider writing on topics related to ecosystem and biodiversity in the days to come. Saying that the best profession is to be a writer and author, he urged to write on burning issues.
He further encouraged the people to support writers as there are very few of them in the state. He also congratulated Swu’s parents for training the child in the right way and urged parents to give more time to children.
The two books were published by Kohima-based Penthrill Publication House and had become its 51st and 52nd books respectively.
