DIMAPUR — Two persons were apprehended in connection with an attempted murder case in Chümoukedima on March 18 evening.
The suspects were arrested for attempting to murder an auto-rickshaw driver near Pimla village and a case has been filed at Chümoukedima Police station under section 307/34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), a police official told this newspaper.
The officer explained that the 24-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, stationed at the auto parking lot at Chümoukedima 2nd gate, was approached by the two accused to hire the auto to travel to Vedima village. However, upon reaching Vedima village, they requested the victim to take them to Pimla village.
Unaware of their intentions, the driver agreed and proceeded towards Pimla village. Upon reaching the vicinity of Pimla village, the duo attempted to strangle the driver from behind with a rope. Fortunately, he managed to escape the strangulation attempt, the officer said.
The officer identified the two accused as Azarad Ali (25 years old) and Amir Hussain (23 years old), the latter being an auto driver himself. Both were apprehended on the same day and are currently in police custody. One was arrested in the Khopanala area of Chümoukedima, while the other was apprehended at 4th Mile.
Both accused persons are from the Darrang district of Assam.
Further investigation revealed that the auto driver and Amir Hussain had a scuffle over rash driving on March 17. This altercation is believed to be a possible motive behind the attempted murder incident.
