Dimapur, March 27 (EMN): The Tuensang division of the National People’s Party (NPP), led by its district president along with members of three assembly constituency units has resigned from both active and primary membership of the party to join the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP).
The constituency units are of the 51st Tuensang assembly constituency, 52nd Longkhim/Chare assembly constituency, and 54th Tuensang Sadar-II assembly constituency.
A press release from the entrants, and another from the Tuensang NDPP issued to the media on Wednesday stated the information.
The Tuensang NDPP welcomed the resigning NPP office bearers into the ruling party ‘to strengthen the hands of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government led by the Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, and Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton; and NDPP President Chingwang Konyak.
In its statement, the Tuensang NDPP asserted that the resigned NPP leaders had expressed ‘disappointment’ at the NPP’s action of setting up candidates for the Lok Sabha and 26th Aonglenden, in Mokokchung district, by-elections ‘despite repeated requests to maintain the spirit of alliance.’ It added that they decided to resign from the NPP to join the NDPP to strengthen the hands of the PDA and its leadership.
A delegation of the resigned leaders also called on the chief minister and expressed their support and cooperation to the PDA candidates and the PDA government, the updates stated.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio welcomed their decision and appreciated them for taking the step to work for the people and assured them to work collectively.
According to the updates from the NDPP, the chief minister exuded confidence that the alliance would grow from strength to strength with support from like-minded people, for the initiatives and developmental works undertaken by the PDA government was there for all to see.
