KOHIMA, JULY 11 : On the initiative of the government mediators for the Chang-Yimchungru issue, a meeting between Tuensang village and Kuthur village was held on July 8 at Tuensang HQ for settlement of the long running standoff between the two communities.
According to a press statement issued by the office of the mediators today, the parties at the meeting, which was held as a follow-up of the resolution of June 29 meeting at Kohima, unanimously agreed to restore the peaceful relationship between the two villages as was prevalent from the time of their forefathers.
Accordingly, the mediators informed, a set of resolution was adopted by the representatives present- to reaffirm the traditional friendly relationships between the two villages; to continue the post of mediators/ambassadors in order to liaise between the two villages in times of need; should there be any misunderstanding between the two villages either on individual capacity or between groups, a joint meeting of the two villages shall be held and appropriate action shall be meted out against the defaulters; any problem that may arise between the two villages shall not give a tribal colour but settle among themselves locally and amicably; and a peace feast may be arranged to mark this landmark occasion.
These resolutions, the statement said, were declared in the presence of government mediators, ENPO Peace Committee convener, Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS), Yimchungru Tribal Council (YTC) and the district administration. It also named the signatories to the resolution as follows- TVCU president H Wongto, K-Khel council chairman N Yemjong, C-Khel head GB Sangkum, L-Khel head GB T Chingmak and K-Khel head GB N Chingmak from Tuensang village; KVC chairman J Shokum Yim, head GB H Shophu Yim, 2nd head GB S Neojichung Yim, and GBs I Mongko Yim and T Royim Yim from Kuthur village; CKS president MP Noksang, YTC president Keozhi and ENPO Peace Committee convener YP Chillio.
