Dimapur, March 28 (EMN): The first meeting of the Tuensang district level consultations for inclusion and participation of Persons with Disability (PWD) was conducted on March 28. The meeting was presided over by additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Tuensang Albert Ezung.
During the meeting, the ADC informed the gathering about the directive given by the Election Commission to provide facilities to persons with disabilities. Ezung said every elector was important for ‘better functioning of democracy’ and that they must get their rights. He informed that the Election Commission had emphasized on PWD participation in the election process with their inclusion in the electoral roll and to encourage them to exercise their franchise.
The ADC has urged the members to have an action plan at the district level and to make it their fundamental responsibility to identify PWD. Once they have been identified, they’ll need to be sensitized, the gathering was told.
Officers from the district administration and departments attended the meeting, it was informed.
