- KOHIMA — As part
of 100-day intensified campaign on tuberculosis (TB) elimination, the
department of Health and Family Welfare organised a TB eradication camp at
Pfuchatsumia Khel (P Khel) panchayat hall in Kohima village on Friday.
- Speaking at the event, Dr. Chibenthung Kithan, district TB
officer, informed that the 100-day TB elimination programme was launched on
December 7, 2024, with the objective of conducting aggressive tests and
screenings. He informed that the team carries portable chest X-ray devices to
villages by providing doorstep screenings for citizens every day. He added that
suspected TB cases are further examined followed by necessary steps for
treatment.
- The officer mentioned that through the camp, residents could
avail themselves of check-ups for blood pressure and blood sugar. He pointed
out that many people in Naga society suffer from high blood pressure and
diabetes and stressed the need for regular check-ups as a preventive measure.
- He also emphasised the importance of testing and early
diagnosis of tuberculosis, which is curable.
- Besides testing and detection, Dr. Kithan informed that the
department is working towards reducing the mortality rate, where early
diagnosis and treatment play a key role. The officer also underscored the need
to prevent new cases of TB and promote TB preventive treatment, calling for
wider participation from the public to eliminate TB.
- He further informed that free services such as blood sugar
tests, BP checks, chest X-rays, HIV tests and hepatitis B and C tests would be
provided along with free doctor consultations.
- Meanwhile, Kelhousetuo Rutsa, chairman of P Khel council,
acknowledged the department of Health and Family Welfare for organising the
camp. He commended the officials for their dedication and efforts towards TB
elimination. He expressed confidence that the camp would highly benefit the
villagers.
