Tsurü Colony downed Liezha ‘B’ in the final to emerge as the champions of the T20 Cricket tournament organized by the Sechü Zubza Youth Organization (SZYO). Playing an exciting final match on a sunny April afternoon at WAPO Ground, Sechü Zubza, Liezha B elected to bat and could muster only a measly 112.
Liezha ‘B’ failed to capitalize the on the field restrictions during the powerplay period as three of their batsmen went down. However, their batsman Visakholie Medoze (33 off20 balls) led from the front to guide his team to a defendable total. Visakholie was well supported by Jasman who also contributed handsomely.
On resumption of the chase, Tsurü also had a shaky start after the loss of two early wickets. Liezha B had the upper hand in the first few overs. However, the third wicket partnership between Neizokholie and Virokoto demoralized their bowlers. Tsurü capitalized so well in the middle overs by taking excellent short runs, and later on, it was Tsurü’s batsman Tutu who smashed the bowlers to all corners. In the end, Tsurü made the chase look so easy and completed the chase with ease.Altogether, five colonies of Sechü Zubza took part in the tournament. Earlier in the semifinal, the champions Tsurü overcame Liezha A in a thriller, while Liezha B comfortably defeated Kherüthi B in the other semifinal. The other colony Kherüthi A was knocked out of the tournament during the league round. The ‘Man of the Series’ was awarded to Vizosietuo Bosco Sekhose of Tsurü Colony for his all-round performance with both the ball and the bat.
It may be mentioned that the cricket tournament was organized as part of the SZYO 50th anniversary celebration which falls this year. The year-long celebrations, held under the theme “Responding to challenges, started early this year and will culminate in December.
Marathon race and Basketball tournament were held in the month of March, whereas, Sepaktakraw and Badminton events would be conducted in the month of May, followed by Table Tennis and Chess in October. Other events including football, volleyball and athletic events would be held in December during the grand jubilee celebrations.
